Stiff zoom barrel

Auto Focus Hunting

corner softness

Conclusion

Good choice for low budget. Very usable and versatile lens. Sharpness is OK up to 200mm (or so), but above that, the quality and the sharpness are questionable, even stopped down. The macro funcion is useful. This lense is suitable for a "first" zoom lense

This is definitly a must have lens if you are just starting out in the DSLR world and are running a little tight on budget. This lens offers flexibility across the focal range and good quality images considering the price. The great thing about this lens is that for the price you even get the macro function which is not something to be sniffed at. It doesn't have a 1:1 macro ratio, but then again, it is a zoom lens. There are other better quality lenses out there but this one will always have a place in my camera bag and will always have a use at some time or other.
