The start of the transfer window for the football clubs.

Glad someone has some money to spend. :D

I have been to busy to take the camera out lately, I have been busy working on the idea of being my own boss with the thought of opening my own bed shop high on the agenda.
I have also been giving a lot of thought to opening a Photographic Retailers in Havant, it used to have one which did very well, I have contacted a local small business advice group and found suitable premises.
I have bookmarked all the big manufacturers contact details ready to apply for business accounts and applied for a ticket for the trade show at the Hammersmith Novotel in a couple of weeks.
I have a couple of thoughts for the company name which I will keep under wraps for now and I have been working on the paperwork designs for letterheads, sales records, sales invoices etc.

A lot of work involved and a fair bit of financing to find before it comes to fruition though.

Christmas is nearly here and another yeardraws to a close.

Apart from meeting some of the members on here and making loads of new friends this year wasn't the best of them.

Sharons Mum passed away suddenly, I have recently been made redundant and the country is heading at breakneck speed into a recession.

2009 probably won't be much better, same old same old, more doom and gloom to come, but the one thing that can be relied on is this place.
There is always a laugh to be had, a conversation to join, a picture or two to look at and a meet going on somewhere to take part in.

Thank God for Gosnap. :adore:

Following up from my post in the Photographers Lounge regarding Tesco and their appalling service in dealing with my order for an Acrylic print, I just wanted to say I have learnt my lesson when it comes to using them for anything but buying milk.

Christian said it all when he said they were a jack of all trades, they master none of them, and I will be looking to proper photographic specialist suppliers for items like this in future.

After christmas I will be placing further orders for items like Acrylics, Canvases, Photobooks etc with various companies to check out quality, delivery, and customer service.

I will post my thoughts on those companies as and when I deal with them. :)

Bryan..

..and calamity, well you have not heard us play.
We are a blues band, write our own stuff plus cover the odd obscure track.

We can be found on FaceBook so if you have one of the things come and join the group.

Well the story so far is.

We looked to gig at a place called City Screen, a dive in York which is known as a student hovel, we turned it down as we had only been playing for a couple of weeks and wanted to get some tunes hacked out before we threw ourselves on unsuspecting students.

A month or so down the line we have a good array of songs to go at and have been asked by a newly opened bar, The Biltmore Bar and Grill. Swinegate, York. to come and gig for them. we are doing 1 hour during the happy hour 5-6pm so if you have a spare hour and are around York come see us.

with me.

I am leaving my job on the 20th December, I am being made redundant as the business is struggling and my boss asked me if I had any objections to going now and getting some redundancy money before it went totally t*ts up and I got nothing, so took the offer.
I have two options on the go at the moment to ponder over.

1. Start my own studio and hope for the best in the current economic climate or...

2. Open a Bed showroom myself with a friend of mine who is a business development manager for a bed manufacturer.

The bed showroom requires us borrowing a lot more money than the Studio but the rewards will be a lot higher too.

We will be looking at around £600,000+ pre tax per annum with outlay of around £400,000 per annum, including a salary for each of us, so a taxable profit of around £200,000+

It is scary thinking about it but to be honest I think we will stand a better chance of having a successful business with the beds than if I go on my own with the studio (that can come later).

Decisions Decisions.

Despite the cold and later the rain I had a good time and Bryan showed us some very interesting places to take pics.
Shaun turned up with his Canon and also a Nikon D300..oh and the lovely Kel (so she could carry his tripod ).

I think he might be turning to the dark side, spent most of the day taking pics on it. :)

I will have to get back upto London at some point to do some more shooting as there was just far too much to see in one day.

Not posted to my blog for ages but I feel I have to rant.

I went to a sports shop tonight to buy a new Tshirt, most of mine are ragged cos I do a lot of rolling round in the countryside as some of you know.

Anyway, I found 2 T shirts both the same size (well on the label) 1 was £5 one was £14 me being a tight Yorkshireman thought hmm £5 sounds better, both shirts looked the same size but I know the £14 one fits as that was the last one I wore out, so I took both shirts of the hangers and measured the drop from shoulder to waist against each other, when I looked up I saw a rathr dodgy looking young man dressed in a peaked cap and tracksuit eyeing me up. Hmm I thought dodgy git so I picked up my shopping and moved away with both shirts and hangers towards the tills, as I looked back this guy is almost a footfall behind me, my wallet in my back pocket, I turned and stopped and let him walk by nervously and I made a detour around another aisle. I put the £14 shirt on it hanger and hung it on a convenient manequins finger and went to pay for the other shirt.

All paid up I went for the exit where I see young man in baseball cap with 2 PCSO's, thought to myself Ah nicked sunshine, as I got closer the young man turned to me and said, can I ask you to open your jacket?
'Eh?' my reply 'What do you mean?' The Female of the PCSO's said are you refusing to open your Jacket, to which I replied, yes I am refusing. At this the Female PCSO said 'I am going to have to caution you' and I quote 'If you say something, I will have to write it up and it will be used against you...' I stopped her there and said, look if you are going to read my rights do you mind getting the words right? I asked what it was all about as noone had bothered to tell me anhything at all, the Youth, who identified himself as a store detective said I saw you take a shirt off a hanger and conceal it!, I explained exactly what I had done, and demaned to see the store manager, at which the male of the PCSO's told me They were asking the questions and I had got no right to see anyone as I was a shoplifter.

Ok that was the last straw, call me a terrorist, anything, call me a shop lifter and trouble is abound. I saw I already had a crowd, I said 'I have no rights, where am I? Guantanamo? who the hell tells you I have no rights, at this the store manager is stood with them, I told him what had happened, told him where the other shirt was, and he told the chav looking geezer to go look for the manaquin with a shirt on its finger, back he came sheepish looking, so the manager asked why I had dodged about in the shop when being followed, 'I said well look at him, I thought he was gonna pick my pocket', at which the crowd erupted in laughter. I looked at the Pretend policeand said, 'And you 2 Bstart's :D why don't you ask why these 2 are wasting your time. Again the store errupted into laughter.

The male officer said I can arrest you for public order offences' I said' Oh why do you know the right words?' I am out of here, they tried to stop me so I said, arrest me or get out of my way. They moved.. I went home...

Rant over

I have ordered a Canvas from a company called Outlook Images to see what their quality is like and the same with an Acrylic from Tesco.

Main reason for using them is price, the Canvas is an A1 and cost £56.00 while the Acrylic £45.00.

I am also getting a photobook organised and again getting it from Tesco, if the quality is right then I will get some more done for selling.

I still have plenty to do before i launch the business, domain name, register business, register with the Inland Revenue etc etc...

Touch wood all will go smoothly and I'll make some money out of it. :)

I need to get round to recalibrating both mine and Dizzys' monitors first and then I can get round to setting it up then taking the old R200 down to Dizzys' puter and setting that up for her.

She did alright out of this, she gets the R200, a box of 100 sheets of Ilford Gallerie Classic Pearl paper and a set of new ink cartridges for it.

I didn't know that the R800 does panoramic prints either, added bonus that. :)

All I have to do now is get display equipment organised (any useful tips graciously welcomed), Display stock organised including mounted prints, Canvases, a couple of Acrylics, Mousemats, Fridge Magnets, Postcards, Keyrings etc.

I am also planning to get a calendar organised ready for 2010, first show I am doing isn't until March 2009 so one for that year is out.

I also want to run a slideshow on a laptop so will be getting that done too.

well my long weekend started wednesday picking up my spending money and getting my pairents to treat me to a monopod.

it was going to be long befor I flew out got my self checked in and was told the plane might be a littlelate as its snowing at Keflavik airport, "Woooohoooo" I found my self thining. so off to the bar I went to pints later I finnally got the call to the gate.

when it comes to flying I love so that was no problem, until we got nearer Keflavik airport, we were told the was a strong tail wind and the landing might be a bit bumpy, again not a problem for me you know it could be a little ruff. But what came next I was not ready for, we where redirected to Akureyri which is in the north about 500 miles away from where we were ment to be. the landing was a littl ruff well the airport wqas tine the plane looked almost as big as the airport building it self.

so there I am no rep not able get hold of one in a strange place, luckly I bumped into someone else on the tour and we all stayed as a group at the airport. one good thing I got a blanket for the camera bag out of this part of the trip.

when we finnall go to our destination we rush out to get on a a tour to see some of the land scape I get few water fall shots and land scapes but the weekend start to get better from a ruff start.

later on the friday the wheel oin the bus fell off so 2 hours stranded in the middle of nowhere but I did get to see more starts than I have ever seen in my life.

day three was the super jeeps tour now 4x4 are normallt big but these things where huge. the bottom of the side windows where the same hight as the top of a landrovers window. I got to see the north atlantic then some more water falls.

one thing at this point i noticed that there had been a small with use for a few days of rotting eggs I was like having Badbadman along with us farting hehe.

day three blue lagoon and home.

this part of the trip was worth the wait it was so surreal snow and hot water still cant get my head round it.

if you get the chance go to iceland It's amasing.

I also need to get back up to St.Huberts Church in Idsworth soon as we haven't been up to see it for ages and with the autumnal colours at their best now I want to get a shot or two of it at this time of year. :)

I have been off work using some of my holiday days up since a week Wednesday and after getting back from the New Forest G2G, where I felt a little unwell, I now have a full blown cold.

I had planned to go out with my camera today but just didn't feel up to it.

The best weather of the week these last two days as well.

I have spent the time working on the pics from the NF G2G so all is not lost. :)

It didn't stop raining until the afternoon on Sunday..just as John and Ange left.

Torrential rain and strong winds made it a real challenge to get out there and take pics but everyone rose to the challenge and braved the elements.

Some fun moments, John on his belly in the rain and mud and Bryan (beejee25) inside a clear plastic bag trying to keep himself and his camera dry while taking pics on the Heath. :D

My Thanks to everyone who came along and made it such a fun time, it was good to meet you all for the first time and always a pleasure to see Bryan again.:top:

Diz and I packed our camera backpacks up earlier and I will probably end up needing medical help for a bad back by the time I have carried it around the heath and forest.

Good job I have got my belly to balance things up. :D

The weather was not too bad today so we headed down to Dunham Massey to try out my new 70-300 mm. I got a few good shots of the deer but the experience has only secured in my mind that I need a tripod. Many of the pics had to be discarded straight away because they were just too blurred. I took some with my camera resting on a tree so there were some useable pics so it wasn't a completely wasted day. My slingshot 200 is really getting heavy now though with my two kit lenses plus the 70-300 mm, I just can't imagine carrying a tripod around with me as well. I'll have to go the gym more and build up my upper body strength!!

The highlight of the day though had to be Tilly being told off by a particularly angry swan, shame I had the long lens on and only got one half decent shot. Typical!!
