Increase Gallery Limits?

The subject of providing members with an increased daily upload limit, and at greater resolution, has recently been raised in the forums again, and as most of you are aware, the current limits were put into place to safeguard the smooth running of the server where Gosnap resides, and, within a given budget. In short, smaller, less frequent uploads to the gallery helps to keep the server running smoothly.

To give you a better idea of how this works, if we were to increase the file size limit to 200kb, then this would almost double the resources used on the server, and again, almost double the bandwidth costs.

Gosnap has been providing a service for the last year where members can enjoy all the benefits for free. However, we are aware that some of our members would like to be able to take advantage of an increase in resources, so, the time has come to decide the way in which we provide this, whilst still continuing to grow and provide additional services and resources that our members want, whilst still offering a free service for the greatest asset we have, which is you, the members. Therefore our decision will be based upon your feedback.

It is feasibly possible to give you increased facilities such as larger file uploads, and a greater upload allowance, BUT, this has an associated cost, so, the question is this. Would you be prepared to pay a nominal annual subscription fee to take advantage of a higher resource level?

As a guide to what could be offered please see below. Please use this as guide only, as full details of additional resources would need to be calculated, also, it may be possible to offer other benefits too.

A number of members have suggested increasing the photo dimensions to display a larger view of their work, and to optimise the details within the photo to display it at the very best quality.

The actual file size of the photo, although with the current limit, it is possible to display high quality results, it has been mentioned, that members want to display their photos at their highest quality, so the file size would be increased to make that possible.

The daily upload limit has also been brought up from time to time, and this would be another area that could be increased, so you can upload more than 3 per day.

Please remember, we are all on the current limits, and that includes all members of the Gosnap team, including the administrators and moderators, and as you can see from the gallery, the quality of their images is very good,so the current limits will remain free to all members, so you can still enjoy Gosnap as you currently do, but, should you choose to, you will be able to take advantage of greater allowances.

At this stage we do not have enough details to warrant much discussion, but please use the poll above to give us some idea of whether this would be a worthwhile excercise and if so, we will get straight to work on it.
