Urban Safari

Here's the one you've all been waiting for folks! it's time to take that camera from around your neck, wrap the strap around your hand, wear the most inconspicuous clothes you have and blend in!

Yes, this week you're going on safari - urban safari and your mission is to catch people doing what they do best - interacting with those around them from within their own bubble. find yourself a nice busy area with a good mixture of people and lots going on and watch for that blend of the unusual and the everyday with your finger poised on your shutter release button.

I've read a lot about street photography on the net and people tend to tend to say that it's hard to define. Maybe as an amateur outside of the 'street' circle i can look at it more objectively - the crux of it for me is simply capturing humans being humans doing human things, while looking for humor and the extra ordinary in every day life: think of a punk in full uniform and funny haircut with a woman's handbag in his hand - it's just an everyday scene but it's got the sort of juxtaposition that makes for an interesting photo.

Kim (Kooky) has demonstrated the shot perfectly:

Punk with handbag

Many street photographers agree that the key to capturing the magic found in street photographs is to be in the thick of the action - no telephoto lenses, or hiding behind corners but bold and gutsy prime lens action, getting in there and being a part of it. Obviously, we're not seasoned and hardened street photographers so your method is entirely up to you!
