Create a new layer Edit>Fill Select 50% Gray Set this layers blending mode to Difference click on Create new fill or adjustment layer (half black half white circle at the bottom of the layers pallette) Select Threshold and move the slider to the left, the last bit of black is your midtone select OK Right click on your eyedropper tool and select colour sampler tool click on your black bit which is your midtone once this is marked you can delete the 50% grey layer and your adjustment. create another theshold adjustment and move it all the way to the left and right marking you blacks and whites with the colour sampler tool. Now create a curves adjustment layer, select the black eye dropper and click on the black, select the white and click on the white now click on the grey and when you select the grey you might find that your colours change quite a bit.
