I have been using this camera for 18 months now and find it a great camera to get you teeth in to SLR photography. I have taken this to iceland and was able to shoot even when the temp dropped to -6 without any issues, it has also stood up to the british summber and autumn rain with no problems. The images are sharp and good colours and with a little practis can produce great images. the kit lens is very useful lens to start with as it has a got mix of wide angle and zoom, however I would look to purchasing the 50mm 1.8 prime http://www.gosnap.co.uk/reviews/showproduct.php/product/15/cat/6 for portraits.

I recently took this lens, as my only lens on a recent trip to Madrid, with the intention of giving it a thorough test. Focus is reasonably fast and accurate, and the lens is pretty sharp at f/5.6 to f/11. When the light was not very good the images produced seemed to lack contrast, but they were easily boosted in post processing. Overall I would rate it a fair replacement for the kit lens ( I would rate the kit lens as 7) The only niggle for me is that as it is a DC lens it will not fill the frame on my 35mm film body.

Lastolite HiLite, what can i say, apart from the best thing ive ever bought, apart from my camera LOL. This is exactly what ive been looking for, too take my portrait to the next level, previously id been using a pop up cloth backdrop, that gave me lots of creases and ruffles and sometimes gave a less than satisfactory standard. Not anymore because the HiLite is made of vinyl its easy cleaned. If you purchase the train, although not cheap at £70 for the 6x7 one, its great and there no need to tape it down, if shooting animals it wipes clean with a cloth, just like vinyl backdrops. As i said before, its easy to use, just pop 2 flash heads into it, 1 at either side and face them to the back of the HiLite for even light distribution, then use your other lights 2 stops less for the perfect high key, every time.

I have only had this camera for just over 24hrs, But I have to say it is a great piece of equipment. I have upgraded from a 300D and the difference is huge. The 40D LCD screen is enormous and very bright and clear, the startup time is very quick. The write to card speed is very fast and the bigger buffer means you don't have to stop shooting for it to catch up.The AF is quick and accurate which is great for sports shooting as is the 6.5 FPS. Another big plus is being able to proram the AE lock button to do AF. Having 2 command dials makes menu navigation etc a breeze. ISO in 1/3 stop increments is a nice feature. The balance and ergonomics are very good, I had a grip with the 300D as it seemed light and unbalanced without it. the 40D feels great without the grip, although I do miss the top button when shooting in portrait, so a BG-E2N is on the wish list. The only niggle I have at the moment is the Direct Print button, why on earth would anybody want one. I will ammend this review as necessary when I have had more time to play with the 40D O/K I have had the camera for just over a week now and have just had a full days shooting at an athletics match, I have to say that the battery life is phenomenal over 550 shots and the battery is still showing full. The 6.5 fps was really handy and the continuous focus was really helpful. the amount and level of control is terrific. Just found that it has a PC cord socket for firing external flash.

A great everyday walk about lens. Great versatility due to large focal range. Easy to carry, is lightweight and compact. However, it does suffer from barrel distortion at wide angles. At 135mm shots can be blurry as a result of slow max aperture and the lack of VR. The build quality is not the best either, when zoomed out the barrel does shake a little and the focusing ring feels a little poor. If this lens had VR built in it would be a truly excellent lens but then you might argue that the 18-200mm would be a better choice. However it is a great all round lens for general photography.

SlingShot_300_AW_1.jpeg

Following advice from other Gosnap members, it was obvious that the 100 was too small for my needs. Decision between the 200 & 300 was difficult, could I justify spending the bigger bucks? A search on Ebay found a brand new 300 for the price that Jessops were charging for a 200 so that answered my question. I should confess that "my needs" should read "my way of thinking" as I prefer to take as much as possible - just in case. The 300 AW allows this easily Yes, this is the big one but well worth it. Mine happily carries a D80 with MB-D80 battery grip and a 70-300 zoom attached, even with a 2X converter if I reverse the lens hood. This still leaves room for the 7th internal compartment in front of the lens (not shown in these piccies). Yes, 7 well-padded compartments for lenses, speedlights, angle finders, batteries & chargers, etc. The dividers are all held in place by hefty velcro so are all adjustable. For a really long lens on the camera, up to 250mm from the body, one divider can be removed and still leave 6 compartments. A pocket under the top flap will hold memory, IR remote etc. A pair of small clips prevent the main zip being opened too far when swung round to the front. This stops your expensive glass ending up on the floor while still giving easy access to camera and the memory pocket. Another large external pocket with smaller compartments holds all my batteries, cables, tethered remote, rocket, filters, tools, pen & paper... On top of all this, a large top compartment big enough for another body. My DVD camcorder fits easily in here. This also has 2 net pockets inside to stop things rattling about. The All-Weather cover is easy to fit and remove and does an excellent job of keeping the rain out. The Slingshot idea isn't a gimmick, it works well. The shape and construction must have been a nightmare to design to make it work on all shapes and sizes of people. Only one little gripe - the clasp to attach the diagonal shoulder strap sits well back on the left hip. Comfy when walking but not the best place to get both hands to when doing it up over a thick coat. I have taken to leaving it closed and lifting the lot over my head, usually knocking my specs off! Apart from this, it is a well-made piece of kit, designed & built to last, that does everything it is claimed to do. It holds a lot and the substantial padding gives good protection against the inevitable bump. If you want to take everything with you except the kitchen sink, this is the one for you. Don't buy one that is just the right size now if you are still buying more gear or you will end up leaving bits at home. :top:

I have had this lens now for about 3 years. I used it with my 350D and now my 40D, and I generally don't have many issues with it. I get fantastic results with it, and find it nice and sharp across the board. Personally not experienced a great deal of image degredation with it. The macro function is pretty good, considering it's a zoom lens. Obviously, you can't beat a dedicated macro lens. To switch the macro function of, I flick to manual focus (on the lens) and the wind it back it to the 8ft marker, flick the macro button off, and then switch back to AF. It's a bit of a pain, but for the number of times you use it, it doesn't really matter. I don't find mine too noisy, but I did have send my girlfriends back as this was noisy. Sigma fixed it under warranty, with great service, and it's been a lot quieter since. For the money, I don't think you'll find a better lens. Obviously a Canon lens would be better, but it's also double the cost! I am more than happy with this lens, and I would recommend it to anyone.:D:D:D

I received mine yesterday from Warehouse Express so I've only managed to take a few quick shots last night to test it. First impressions are very good though. I took a couple of pictures from sat on my sofa looking out the front door whilst the cat was playing outside. I set the lens to full 300mm and the results where really good, lovely sharp image and excellent depth of field. I'm using a K10D with IS enabled so found I had no problems with shake. I shall be taking a few more pics this week but so far im pleased :top: Pics taken yesterday with the Sigma... http://www.gosnap.co.uk/gallery/showphoto.php/photo/13666/cat/all/limit/last1 http://www.gosnap.co.uk/gallery/showphoto.php/photo/13667/cat/all/limit/last1 http://www.gosnap.co.uk/gallery/showphoto.php/photo/13665/cat/all/limit/last1

I haven't really used my set yet as have been busy with other things but intend to change that soon. When I recieved them from Morris Photo I unpacked it to check all was working and was pleased to find a well made bit of kit for the money. It is a little flimsy in some areas but at the price you can't expect anything else. The stands are good quality and the brolly and softbox that are part of the kit are more than acceptable. They have built in modelling lights and can go down to 1/8th power so well specified. Anyone on a budget and only doing ocassional portraits will not get a better kit for such a bargain price.:top::top: EDIT: I have just ordered a MK2 set and will review them as soon as I have had a chance to use them. Smile Edit 30-05-2008: I have received my set of Mk2 Lights and they are every bit as good as the Mk1s. :top:
