Following advice from other Gosnap members, it was obvious that the 100 was too small for my needs. Decision between the 200 & 300 was difficult, could I justify spending the bigger bucks? A search on Ebay found a brand new 300 for the price that Jessops were charging for a 200 so that answered my question. I should confess that "my needs" should read "my way of thinking" as I prefer to take as much as possible - just in case. The 300 AW allows this easily
Yes, this is the big one but well worth it. Mine happily carries a D80 with MB-D80 battery grip and a 70-300 zoom attached, even with a 2X converter if I reverse the lens hood. This still leaves room for the 7th internal compartment in front of the lens (not shown in these piccies). Yes, 7 well-padded compartments for lenses, speedlights, angle finders, batteries & chargers, etc. The dividers are all held in place by hefty velcro so are all adjustable. For a really long lens on the camera, up to 250mm from the body, one divider can be removed and still leave 6 compartments. A pocket under the top flap will hold memory, IR remote etc. A pair of small clips prevent the main zip being opened too far when swung round to the front. This stops your expensive glass ending up on the floor while still giving easy access to camera and the memory pocket.
Another large external pocket with smaller compartments holds all my batteries, cables, tethered remote, rocket, filters, tools, pen & paper...
On top of all this, a large top compartment big enough for another body. My DVD camcorder fits easily in here. This also has 2 net pockets inside to stop things rattling about. The All-Weather cover is easy to fit and remove and does an excellent job of keeping the rain out.
The Slingshot idea isn't a gimmick, it works well. The shape and construction must have been a nightmare to design to make it work on all shapes and sizes of people. Only one little gripe - the clasp to attach the diagonal shoulder strap sits well back on the left hip. Comfy when walking but not the best place to get both hands to when doing it up over a thick coat. I have taken to leaving it closed and lifting the lot over my head, usually knocking my specs off!
Apart from this, it is a well-made piece of kit, designed & built to last, that does everything it is claimed to do. It holds a lot and the substantial padding gives good protection against the inevitable bump. If you want to take everything with you except the kitchen sink, this is the one for you. Don't buy one that is just the right size now if you are still buying more gear or you will end up leaving bits at home.
